Obesity is a gobal pandemic in the Firstworld countries and it is getting worse by the day. It seems the poverty in the Thirdworld countries is a blessing in disguise, where you don't have this problem. This is an economic burden on both public and private. This affects each of us one way or another. The healthcare prices are skyrocketing as a result. Obesity is responsible for around five percent of global deaths. It is the third largest social burden. Forty seven percent of direct or indirect cost associated with chronic disease.  It is said that losing five percent can reduce more the two thousand dollars in medical cost per person. It seems like the general public doesn't seem to care anymore or given up on the subject. Yet diet related companies are making millions without actually solving the problem. Today more than ever there is so much information on how to stay healthy and it seems not enough for people to take advantage of that or notice the gravity of the situation. We look at the other person who is bigger and feel good about ourselves. 

In order to fight this epidemic, we need to know what we are dealing with. First and foremost, you need to know if you are obese.  Calculating your body mass index, BMI will determine whether you are overweight or otherwise. I found this calculator on AARP website. Knowing your BMI is the first step. Next step would be to know what it is exactly and what you need to do. The picture below is what the results look like. This is my BMI. In other words, for your height you need to be within a certain weight. If you are over regardless of how you look and feel you are obese. This is where we got lost on obeisity. 


My BMI is healthy and this one of the reasons why I chose to write this. I have maintained my weight of hundred and forty pounds since high school. Which is a long, long time ago. I have a disciplined approach to food and regular exercise. It is basic from day one. If you go back to our ancestors and know how they lived, you have the answers to this problem. They did not follow fancy diets, diet pills or paid to know what to eat. They didn't become Vegan or had mixed shakes for breakfast and lunch. Today we are all trying to be fancy with the situation. When you say I am dieting, it sounds nice and modern. Not necessarily that is solving any problems. Yes! it sounds nice.

The discomfort and the inconveniences obesity create to oneself is not enough for us to do something about it. There are those who are spending a lot of money on diet products and hoping it will do the magic. As serious as the situation is, we are still looking for fast solutions. Easier and more expensive program must be better, is the approach we take. Some have no idea as to what to do or where to get help without spending money. So, they don't do anything. We have seen so many commercials and informercials on tv and on the internet that we are so confused, and the majority has given up. No one has ever said just to do the basic.  


There are those who become handicap with thighs rubbing onto each other. People walk slow and behave like zombies without Energy.  Not to mention the diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer. According to CDC one of the many covid related deaths due to obesity. People go through hip and knee surgery due to overweight. This is because your own body has given up saying I cannot carry you anymore. I seem to be rough and controversial about this matter. I simply cannot hold it in without saying what I believe to be true. We have information on everything, everywhere we look. We have chosen to have our way or the highway. We have the freedom to choose, but this is not freedom and that is not how it is supposed to work. When my body talks, I listen.  I refuse to accept inconveniences in my body without doing something about it. 

I would go to an extent where if I hit my arm some where I will make a note to remind me about it. So, three days later when it hurts, I know I hit it somewhere and it is not an ailment or arthritic pain. If I have the slightest pain in any part of my body, I want to know what it is. To me being free is that. It starts with me at home. Yes, I am being rough. If it works, then I am on to something, where others have failed.  Have you noticed on YouTube how people have to shout in order to get their messages across. May be that approach works.


Sometimes we don't undertake anything for the fear of not being able to afford or that you don't have it in you to follow it through. Your health is far more important to weigh in options. As controversial as it may sound, I am sad to see some of the silent suffering of people in public go through and I need to help. So far, I have helped two homeless people get out of the street simply by helping them get jobs and guiding and coaching them through the process. Mentally being their for them. This for me is a major milestone. Getting people out of the street is not related to Obesity but you get my point. I do care about people. In the past I have gone walking with people just to encourage them. This gets them out of the mindset of, others don' care.


There are various diet programs like juicing, keto diets, so many infomercials claiming results to the solution. We have an original food triangle that has taught us the potions to eat. Somehow this got altered and now we are confused about everything. The basics never changed. Everybody is against carbs. The basic and the fundamental food group Carbohydrates that we are trying to eliminate. Did anyone tell you that the energy part of your diet comes from that. Every time you move you lose energy, and you get it back with carbs. Without carbs, you are always hungry and have no energy. The result is that we are always eating. It is open house to your stomach. We seek junk food as it accessible fast. No one told you that because that has trended for so long out there and everyone is scared to contradict that.

If follow the food triangle 6-11 servings of carbohydrates. The highest servings of the list. This is still the right portion. Altering this has brought us todays results and almost the cause of Obesity. 

My dad was a doctor and if you went his clinic for treatment, one of the things he would discuss with you was your diet based on what sickness you had. Today nobody educates you on basic things like that, as it is not up to them. The medical profession has forgotten why we go to them in the first place. There are health care professionals including doctors that are obese. So, my question is, what are we doing?

A smock once worn in the operating room to protection of germs, has become a fashion item that is worn in the street. This is how far we have gone away from it all. Education makes us better to live healthier. It seems we are going backwards. People are suffering from avoidable suffering and dying from the same.

The most important aspect of losing weight is to follow basic principles.

  1. First it is a discipline. It does not cost money. A set of rules and regulations that you follow for thirty days up until it becomes a habit. Once it is a habit you don't even think about it. 
  2. Sleep is a key factor in losing weight.  Nobody talks about it in this subject. You need to get at least six to seven hours of sleep. Ideal for me is eight. Routinely you sleep at the same time every day and wake up at the same time.  This will give you natural energy. One of the biggest problems we all have is not having energy to do the stuff we have to do. When we have no energy, we seek for food. Some would go for energy drinks and so on. But if we slept enough your body would sustain the levels of energy it requires up until the next meal. Your body needs to understand your life and what you do on a regular basis. Then it can manage the day like you want. Therefore, the sleep pattern has become a habit.  How to get a good night 's Sleep.
  3. Drinking water is to keep you hydrated. Cells in your body is made up of water. So, it is important you keep it hydrated for it to perform. All the hydration it needs is WaterThe only thing that I drink is water. I drink black hot tea with milk also. I am not against any food or drink. I eat and drink everything, all throughout my life. If you keep reading you will understand what I mean. I mentioned black tea. A good thing like tea has taken all sorts of different forms and some interesting flavors. If you have followed Dr Oz. You will know that black tea is the healthiest of all. 
  4. Eating three meals a day would provide you with energy for the day. You slept you have energy, as you move during the day you lose that energy. Food replenishes that. I eat my breakfast at 8.30am, lunch at 1pm and dinner around 730pm. I have a snack with tea around 5pm. This is what the Queen of England does also. I wonder why? I have energy for the entire day. I don't eat anything else in between other than drinking water. Remember this became a habit and I don't even think about it anymore. My body does not ask for anything either. Remember the disciplined approach.  I want you to remember this the whole time.
    Since you are eating regularly, you don't need to eat big quantities of it. If you follow all what I am saying it doesn't matter what you eat. Although, I would say vegetables and fruits to be incorporated.  
  5. Exercise regularly. Now that you have energy you can set up days to do some basic exercise. If you like to walk, do it on certain days and keep doing it until that becomes a habit. When you get used to walking regularly begin to walk faster and then begin to run. Take it at your pace.These are done strategically where you are training your body and it does not become a burden or hard. You should already feel good at this point, and you should see changes. This is just the beginning. 
  6. It is said that you need to stand for a minimum of twelve hours a day. What this means is that for every hour you are awake in intervals of each hour you stand up and moved around for at least for one minute. The first hour I was seated, and I happened to get up and did something. The following message appeared on my watch. So, I achieved that goal for the first hour. This needs to be followed for the rest of the day. It is not a continues standing up twelve hours.


The Fitness app on my iPhone expects me to fill three rings every day. Move, Exercise and Stand. They are color coded. Basically, just doing my basic chores gives me all three. I automatically fill the circles on most days. Your body is made to move. Being lazy is not moving. Find your form of exercise and do it on a regular basis. Plan for it during the day if you go to work. Bike riding is a good way to get exercise. I go out for a bike ride anytime I can. Sunday mornings, go for a long ride. I am lazy to get up. But I do and after my ride I feel so good. Not only has it given me exercise, My energy level is high and my moral too. 

Find something that you like and make it as a workout. Join a group if you don't want to do it alone. I am willing to help anyone who comments and I can motivate or even coach for this situation.

The other trend we have is that everyone claims they are busy. Being on the phone for twelve hours is not being busy. I am on the phone all the time too. But my discipline has made me plan for other things that I have to do. Excuses are good for inviting a friend or go to the movies. When it comes to your health, don't do it.

We spoke about water, sleep and eating regular meals. Smoking, drinking and other addictions, has to go too. I don't do none of those and one could find my life boring. If you have followed me, You know it to be not true. I have a fun life, it is never boring. I do different sports and I travel any chance I get. I aways incorporate my stories to inspire. I contribute so much to Google from my traveling. Yes! I monetize on them too. I never intended this journey for money, but it became that way.
